Last week, a dog, abandoned by its owner and deprived of food for several weeks, died of starvation in an apartment in Quint-Fonsegrives (Haute-Garonne).

A Malinois dog was found dead in an apartment in Quint-Fonsegrives, near Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), reports La Dépêche. The poor pooch was deprived of food for several weeks.

As the regional daily specifies, the owner of the animal was taken into custody by the gendarmes on April 19. He is being prosecuted for “serious abuse and acts of cruelty to a domestic animal, resulting in death”.

This sad incident took place at the beginning of April when a woman tried to retrieve her belongings from the apartment she shared with her ex-boyfriend. On the spot, the young woman realizes that a smell of putrefaction escapes from her old accommodation, explains Toulouse news.

After several attempts, she manages to open the front door and falls on the corpse of the Malinois. According to information from the news site, the quadruped, which was abandoned by its owner, lived locked up for several weeks before losing its life. During his ordeal, the five-year-old dog ingested bits of plastic, chemicals and pieces of furniture to survive, said a source familiar with the matter.

Note that an investigation has been opened. The culprit, who had not paid his rent for several months, will be summoned to the Toulouse Criminal Court. He faces five years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros.
