Forced to work at 80 to pay his rent, this concierge received the most beautiful gift from the students of the school

In the United States, high school students raised more than $200,000 to allow their school janitor to retire. The 80-year-old man had to go back to work because of the increase in his rent.

Recently, students at a secondary school in Texas (United States) allowed the 80-year-old janitor of the establishment to retire permanently. The latter managed to collect more than 200,000 dollars (188,884 euros) after launching an online kitty.

As Insider magazine points out, the octogenarian, a certain Mr. James, was forced out of retirement this year when his rent was increased by 400 dollars (about 380 euros). It is in this context that the old man had to accept a caretaker job last January to be able to keep his accommodation. Touched by his situation, the students of Callisburg decided to set up a GoFundMe.

“No one deserves to work all their life”
The online kitty, which was created on February 15 by three students, aimed to raise 10,000 dollars (about 9,500 euros) to cover rent, groceries and concierge bills.

“ Hey guys! I’m organizing a fundraiser for our janitor who is struggling to pay his rent ,” read the campaign page, posted by student Greyson Thurman. » He had to leave his retirement to continue paying his rent, which was increased .»

And the least we can say is that the post quickly went viral. In a first, Greyson Thurman shared the kitty on his TikTok account, where it has been viewed nearly 20,000 times.

In total, the teenagers raised 217,000 dollars (about 204,932 euros) thanks to 7,000 donors, each as generous as the next. Unsurprisingly, Internet users congratulated the students for their kindness and their mobilization.

“ Nobody deserves to work all their life. They deserve to enjoy everything , ”Greyson Thurman told the local press.
