Paris: at least 7 seriously injured in the explosion of a building that collapsed

An explosion took place this Wednesday, June 21 in Paris , causing the collapse of a building.

It was around 5 p.m. on Wednesday when a very strong explosion occurred in Paris in a building, the facade of which then collapsed.

The detonation took place in the fifth arrondissement of the capital, rue Saint-Jacques, near the Val-de-Grâce hospital. The explosion then caused a fire which has since been contained, while 270 firefighters are said to be on site.

The tragedy also caused the evacuation of several buildings that adjoined the affected building.

At least 7 people are in absolute emergency and 9 in relative emergency, according to information collected by the media. This report is still provisional because research is currently taking place under the rubble.

Some witnesses mentioned «a strong smell of gas» on the spot but «nothing makes it possible to determine the origin of the disaster at this stage», declared the Paris prosecutor’s office, which opened an investigation for «involuntary injuries».
