At the beginning of January, a 17-year-old apprentice mechanic saved the life of his boss in the Deux-Sèvres department. He has just received the citizenship award from the National Order of Merit.
From the height of his 17 years, Maxime Gauthier has nothing to envy to superheroes. The reason ? On January 10, the latter saved the life of his boss in Saint-Pardoux-Soutiers (Deux-Sèvres). For his courage, he was awarded this Saturday, May 6, the civics prize of the National Order of Merit.
In an interview with the New Republic, the young man, who works in a car garage, tells the story behind this heroic rescue . “ On January 10, when I left work, my motorcycle broke down. I then returned to the garage on foot , ”explains the young apprentice to the regional daily.
On the spot, Maxime then hears his boss, Anthony Saboureau, whisper his name and discovers that the latter is in critical condition:

Faced with the urgency of the situation, Maxime hastens to alert the emergency services while trying to free his superior’s head. Luckily, he succeeded in this operation by lifting the load: » He couldn’t speak but he was shaking my hand, I continued to speak to him until the firefighters arrived, he had put himself in the lateral position of security (PLS) ”.
As specified by the New Republic, Anthony Saboureau was transferred in a state of absolute emergency to the University Hospital of Poitiers, where he was operated on for five hours. Today, the one who spent a week in a coma is doing much better.
“ Without him, I wouldn’t be here today, that’s clear ,” said the boss during the award ceremony for his apprentice.
