Every day that passes, nature offers us an absolutely grandiose spectacle. And it’s not the American photographer Zach Cooley who will say the opposite!
Indeed, at the end of October 2020, while hiking in the famous Arches National Park located in Utah, he captured an absolutely extraordinary scene: the moon framed in a rock formation reminiscent of an eye.
But do not believe that it is only chance and luck that allowed him to achieve such a shot. For several years, Zach Cooley has specialized in photographs with the moon as the main subject. The Earth ‘s natural satellite has always fascinated him and as a trained photographer, he logically decided to dedicate his time to it by combining his two passions.

«Photos of the moon like this can require quite a bit of planning and this photo did. I use several photography apps that allow me to see exactly where the moon will appear at a given time and position (PlanIt!, The Photographer’s Ephemeris, and PhotoPills). For accurate alignment you need to stand in the right place and a few steps in the wrong direction can cause you to miss the target. I have never been happier when it appeared in the right place and I knew I could pull off the intended shot. I remember when digital cameras were pretty new and my dad tried to take a picture of the full moon right above us and it didn’t work at all.he explained to our colleagues from My Modern Met.
