An Australian mother has decided to have the wine stain removed from her son’s face. Since then, she has been treated as a ‘monster’ by ill-intentioned Internet users.

Brooke Atkins, 33, and her husband welcomed their second child six months ago, a boy named Kingsley. When their son was born, his parents noticed the birthmark covering his face.
These birthmarks are harmless but can in some cases, when the spot is on the face , be problematic. It may be glaucoma or Sturge Weber syndrome which can lead to blindness or seizures. After diagnosis, Kingsley was found to have both.
As her mum told the Daily Mail , these birthmarks “ are progressive, which means they will change and darken over time. [These spots] can develop a ‘cobblestone’ appearance, with raised bumps, ridges and the risk of vascular bullae, where they bleed dangerously ”.

To avoid all these inconveniences to her son, Brooke Atkins and her husband therefore decided to treat Kingsley’s spot with a laser. » Once a port wine stain reaches this stage, it is often very difficult to treat and the laser has virtually no effect, as the skin is already far too damaged ,» says the young woman.
Kingsley’s parents therefore took the plunge by going to Queensland Children’s Hospital. » The goal of laser treatments is not to ‘remove’ the birthmark, but rather to keep the skin healthy, to prevent further damage to the area ,» recalls Brooke Atkins.

The laser treatment took effect, and Kingsley’s birthmark was noticeably reduced. Brooke and her family are happy but couldn’t avoid the many insults and remarks on social media:
» This birthmark is barely visible, what you’re doing to him is horrible, it’s more for you than him ,» one of them said.
“ Brainwashed mother makes her child anxious the second he comes out of the womb ,” another commented.

Cruel words that undermined Brooke’s morale when they read them before the mother found joy again through the many other positive comments. » […] He’s the happiest, most loving, sweetest boy you’ll ever meet ,» Brooke shot back at his detractors.
